News from Chagpori

How is CTMI doing on

  1. On 10th and 11th September members of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine visited the pharmacy and College departments of Chagpori. The main purpose of their visit was for the inspection of Chagpori’s facilities. The team was headed by Dr. Dorjee Wangdue (member of CCTM and resident doctor at West District in Gyalshing hospital, Govt. of Sikkim). Mr. Tsewang Tashi, Tibetan Settlement Officer, Darjeeling, Central Tibetan Administration and Dr. Tenzin Norbu, CMO, Men-Tsee-Khang clinic at Salugara were the other two members of the inspection team.
  2. We are delighted to receive the most Ven. Dukpa Rinpoche at our College on 8th September. Rinpoche graciously blessed the premises and also bestowed the oral transmission of Medicine Buddha sadhana and Yuthog Nyingthig teachings to our teachers and students.
  3. The new students of the 6th batch have started their classes from September. The 5th batch students are studying well.
  4. The beginning of June was especially a joyful period for Chagpori. Nine Chagpori doctors of the 4th batch have successfully completed their 5 years of theoretical medical studies and one year of internship at Chagpori and different Men-Tsee-Khang's branch clinics. We are grateful to Men-Tsee-Khang for their co-operation and help. After graduation the young amchis have done their Yuthog Nyingthig "ngondro" as per Chagpori's lineage. Six of them successfully did the special oral examination of the Three Tantra's.
  5. On 5th June convocation of the Chagpori doctors was held at Chagpori College, Takdah Cantt., Darjeeling. It is the first time in the history of Chagpori to have a batch of only female doctors graduating. We whole heartedly thank all the sponsors for giving help in the form of funds and support to Chagpori over the years.
  6. On 6th June all Chagpori doctors present had an enriching seminar, in which experiences were shared and doubts were cleared.
  7. On 9th June all the 9 new doctors were given their placements in college, pharmacy and different clinics.
  8. Due to your continued support we were able to buy a flat in Darjeeling town for Chagpori's office and clinic in January 2011. We whole heartedly thank you for your help.
  9. We have opened a temporary pharmacy in a new rented place with the machines which were donated by the Bep Aten Foundation from Holland. From now onwards we will be able to manufacture medicines on a larger scale and the quality will be checked regularly. However, the place is still too small to meet all the GMP guidelines for the moment.
  10. The conceptual drawings for the official pharmacy and college have been completed by the architect. We have applied for the building permission. We will start with the construction as soon as the monsoon ends and all permissions are granted. We are really looking forward to start this major project.
  11. Our clinic in Darjeeling town is running successfully.
Since we have more doctors and with the assurance of better production of medicines, we are thinking of opening more clinics in the near future. We will keep you informed as this develops.
  12. In the Himalayan region a lot of remote areas lack proper health care. Therefore in 2010 we started a mobile clinic in Rimbick, which is 86 kms from Darjeeling. The road is mountainous and in very bad condition, so it takes 4 hours to reach. We are grateful to the Sakya monastic school for hosting our team. Our doctors visit Rimbick twice a month.
